The Chosen Ones - Covenant Promise given to Abraham - His Seed a Multitude of Nations

The Making of Multitudes of Nations

THE FIRST PROMISE GIVEN TO Abraham

Gen 13:16 “ And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your descendants can also be numbered.”

Dust – that which is small, insignificant, almost unworthy of our notice, is something you find everywhere. How much dust is on your bookshelves and in your room?__________

How much dust do you think is in your house, in your city, your state in the nation?

Most people consider the Jews as the covenant descendants of Abraham.  As true as this is, would you consider them as innumerable? ________

Would you consider the Jewish people to be like the dust covering your room- everywhere you look?________

Yes there are numerous Jewish communities but are these people, the people you see every time you turn around?_______

If you said yes, let me ask you, How many Jewish friends do you have? ______Do your Jewish friends constitute every other person?______

Did you know that the word “Jew” comes from the word Judah and is a reference to the descendants of the tribe of Judah?

?????   So …. The obvious question is…If the Jews are just descendants of one tribe and they do not constitute being as numerous as the dust of the earth (every other friend of yours is not Jewish are they?)… and if God’s promises are always true…Who are the people that constitute the fulfillment of this promise?

Good Question I’m glad your thinking.  We are laying further the foundation of your study into History & Geography?  The most exciting study you have ever done.

THE SECOND PROMISE GIVEN TO Abraham

Gen 17:4 “ As for me, behold my covenant is with you and you shall be the father of a MULTITUDE OF NATIONS.”

What does multitude mean?_______________________________________________              You are welcome to look it up.

We recognize the state of Israel as the descendants of Abraham but does this qualify as a MULTITUDE OF NATIONS?____________

Does the 5 or 6 nations surrounding the state of Israel as Ishmaels descendants qualify as a MULTITUDE OF NATIONS?_____________     A person could perhaps have that perspective but the blessing of becoming a MULTITUDE OF NATIONS was not passed down through Ishmael but through Isaac and Jacob (Gen. 26:4 & Gen 28:14).

Gen 22:17 “Indeed I will greatly bless you and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies.  And in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”

How much sand do you think is in an 8 oz. cup?____________ How much sand do you think is in a quart?________________  How much in a gallon? _____________ How much sand on your favorite beach?  _______________Do you think God is talking about spiritual descendants or literal physical descendants?
